Morning Run

That’s how I like to run a marathon! Proud of this one. I ran a tactical race to meet my arbitrary but meaningful to me goal of finishing Chicago sub 3. 

I “shortened the course” as was my plan with coach Peter Bromka. I felt given my injuries and broken build that I didn’t have enough endurance to run 26 miles at 6:52 pace. But I did believe I could run a lot of miles 7+ pace and a few miles faster than 6:52.  

Coming through half in 1:30:5x I knew I’d done what I wanted and just had to do a slight negative split. The last 1200m were an adventure and I found myself alternately asking God and my Mom for strength over and over. I don’t know if they are out there or it just gave me strength to say it but I found what I needed to finish strong. 

I love the running community. As I ran by them, I thought of the places I walked three years ago with Bruce Ma when we bonked into friendship. I was so happy to spend time with him again. I am grateful to Alex Burke for being a great PT and believing in me even when I couldn’t run. Same goes for coach Bromka. And as always I am eternally grateful for my friend Joseph Mercer who is always there to run, listen, and support. And thanks to everyone who has been supportive and reached out over the last few months with understanding and encouragement. 🙏
