The vert is minimal, they said. 20 miles will be fine, they said. By they, I mean us. And by 20 miles, I mean 22 miles of knee pain and lost gear (rip water bottle and my right teva). Mt. Mayo, Mt. Bolton, then 10 miles of laborious downhill that rocked our knees’ worlds, Winooski River and 4 miles of golden hour on the road (highlight: old lady bin), and then finally two dark miles up an unnamed bump that should be called hiker’s hell. Starry sky at Harringtons view helped me through that last leg. Bamforth tent site rules. 10/10 privy. Tuna Mac topped with quest spicy cheese crackers cured all.
