July 29, 2021

Today was another rest day for me. I decided to take a zero to let me quad heal and I was feeling slightly under the weather from the heat. Did some research on what was troubling me and came to the conclusion that it was a mild rectus femoris strain or overuse injury (Thanks Uncle Jeff for your insight).

While resting I met some amazing people and talked for hours sharing stories and listening to stories. It gave me such a rejuvenated feeling having a genuine talk with someone and not doing the usual small talk.

Lisa and Scott, the hosts of the B&B I stayed at were so helpful and understood what a hiker wants and needs when they come off trail. It was another amazing hostel experience.

July 30, 2021

Today I got back on trail. Lisa and Scott cooked me a filling breakfast and I packed all my gear and headed out. I felt so good today. My mood was excellent, I was focused, I felt strong and knew I could achieve my goal. The terrain was relatively easy with a good amount of flat and mind elevation changes. I met a few thru-hikers today. One guy is going 20-25 miles per day so I’ll hopefully be seeing more of him.

I’m excited to be leaving Virginia soon and heading into new areas and exploring new states. Tomorrow I will be crossing into West Virginia and starting my walk along the West Virginia/Virginia border. I can’t wait to get to Harpers Ferry, the spiritual halfway point of the trail.

Oh, also I made a bear fall out of tree because I didn’t notice he was right above me and he jumped off the branch causing it to fall right behind me and ran off. I was a little shocked to put it lightly, but laughed it off. It’s amazing how silent they can be.
